Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we usually get asked

What if my child has never played piano before?

Perfect — most of our students start as complete beginners. Our lessons are designed specifically for beginners, and we'll guide your child step-by-step from their very first notes.

Will this actually work over Zoom?

Yes. Piano Play has been teaching online since 2015. Students learn live with a real teacher and follow a simple step-by-step system designed specifically for online lessons.

How long are the lessons?

Your child's free trial lesson is 15 minutes. Our ongoing lessons are 60 minutes long, which gives students more time to relax, experience lots of small wins, and make excellent progress without feeling rushed.

What happens after the trial lesson?

If your child enjoys the free trial lesson and you'd like to continue, all new students begin with our 6-week Starter Pack.

The Starter Pack helps new students build strong foundations, learn favourite songs, and experience regular lessons before moving into our ongoing weekly program.

We'll send you all the details by email after you book your free trial lesson, including pricing and program information.

Do I need to sit with my child during the trial?

We recommend being nearby at the beginning and end of the trial lesson. This gives you a chance to meet the teacher, ask questions, and learn more about the program. During the learning part of the lesson, children work independently while the teacher guides them step-by-step.

How does the teacher see my child's hands?

Simply place a laptop, tablet, or phone beside the keyboard so the camera can see your child's hands while they play. We'll also send simple setup instructions before the trial.

What kind of keyboard or piano do we need?

Any keyboard or piano is fine for the free trial lesson. If you're still looking for a keyboard, we'll send you our free Keyboard Buying Guide in your confirmation email, including beginner keyboards from around $349 AUD that can be delivered to your door.

Is Piano Play suitable for children aged 7+?

Piano Play is designed for beginners aged 7 and above. At this age, children are typically ready to learn independently, follow instructions on Zoom, and build strong piano skills and foundations.

Do you teach adults too?

Yes! We also teach adult students. Many of our adult students are learning piano for the first time, while others are returning to piano after many years away.

If you're an adult interested in lessons, simply fill in the form using your own details.

Is the trial really free?

Yes. The 15-minute trial lesson is completely free, with no obligation to continue afterwards. We offer a free trial because many parents find it difficult to imagine how piano lessons can work online until they see their child learning in a lesson themselves!
